Nico Favre Accident, Rhone-Alpes Videographer Nicolas Favre Died, Obituary and Funeral

The outdoor sports world is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Nicolas “Nico” Favre, who passed away in an accident on Thursday, April 17, 2025. A man of extraordinary sensitivity and creative spirit, Favre was more than a videographer—he was the silent heartbeat of the trail-running community, a visual poet who brought mountains to life.

Favre, 43, died while doing what he loved most—filming in the high mountains that defined his life’s work. His passing leaves behind a heartbroken community, an orphaned landscape, and timeless images that now echo like soft, suspended heartbeats.

For over 12 years, Nicolas Favre worked as a director, drone pilot, and cameraman, pushing the limits of mountain cinematography. His lens was a window into the world of trail running—raw, authentic, and filled with emotion. Known for his collaborations with Salomon, Favre co-directed the acclaimed web series Fringale alongside Michel Lanne, a project that brought viewers deep into the soul of the sport.

He also played a major creative role in the popular Bon Appétit Ski series, signing off on nine unforgettable seasons. His partnership with production houses like Ravito and Nico Films, which he founded, made him a reference point in the extreme sports audiovisual scene. His shots—often taken from inaccessible ridges and captured with extraordinary proximity to the runners—were as fearless as they were poetic.

Those who worked with Nico describe him as humble, gentle, and deeply devoted to his craft. In a sport defined by endurance and performance, Nico brought softness and reflection. His quiet nature was never absence—it was presence. He listened more than he spoke, saw more than he showed, and always knew how to frame a moment without ever centering himself in it.

“He was a weaver of ties,” said a close collaborator. “Someone who captured not just images, but emotions, silences, and truths.”

His work with legendary ultra-trail runner François D’Haene, the AG2R La Mondiale pro cycling team, and the Golden Trail National Series was a testament to his range and reputation.

Beyond the lens, Favre was also a passionate trailer himself. He once finished 9th in the Trail de Bozel in 2020—proof that he didn’t just observe the sport; he lived it.

A farewell ceremony for Nicolas Favre will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 3 p.m. at the Montagny Festival Hall (73350). The event is expected to be filled with tears, memories, and the kind of respectful silence that Nico so often embraced in his art.

One of the most touching tributes came from filmmaker and friend Lucas Stanus, who wrote:

“Nico,
We lose a great friend, a golden soul.
The mountain loses the one who knew how to showcase it best.
It was a pleasure to work with you. You’re irreplaceable—
The only one who could run that fast, camera in hand.
You will be watching over us from above.
Good trail in the clouds, buddy.
Your athlete ❤️😭
With all my heart.”

Nicolas Favre may no longer walk the trails, but his spirit lingers in every ridge he filmed, every silence he preserved, and every heartbeat he helped us feel through his lens. The trail-running world, and indeed the broader outdoor community, has lost not just a professional—but a soul.

The mountains will remember him.

The images will continue to breathe.

And we will continue to walk—guided by the light he left behind.

Rest in peace, Nico.
Let the summits embrace you, as you once embraced them—with light, respect, and beauty.
